The assessor for nurses and midwives migrating to Australia. Splits applicants by where they trained and registered to set fees, English bars, and document depth.
ANMAC is the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council, the statutory authority that assesses overseas-qualified nurses, midwives, and direct-care health workers for skilled migration. It runs three products: a Full Skills Assessment for nurses and midwives trained overseas, a Modified Skills Assessment for applicants already registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) or holding an Australian or New Zealand qualification, and a Direct Care Skills Assessment for support roles like Nursing Support Officer and Personal Care Worker. ANMAC is separate from NMBA registration, which is what lets you actually practise.
ANMAC produces the migration outcome that Home Affairs accepts for the points test. NMBA registration, administered through AHPRA, is what lets you actually work as a nurse or midwife in Australia. ANMAC explicitly does not advise on registration. Many applicants need both, but the documents, fees, and timelines do not overlap. Plan both processes in parallel rather than waiting for one to finish.
ANMAC's published English requirement for the Full Skills Assessment is IELTS Academic 7.0 in each of the four components, or OET B in each component, with PTE Academic and TOEFL iBT equivalents. The Modified Skills Assessment has a reduced English requirement for applicants already registered with NMBA or holding an Australian or New Zealand nursing qualification. ANMAC's own published assessment-process page lists English test results as required "for Full Skills Assessment only".
The Modified Skills Assessment costs $395, the cheapest of the three products. It is available to applicants already registered with NMBA or holding an Australian or New Zealand nursing or midwifery qualification. If NMBA registration is still in progress, the Full Skills Assessment at $595 is the available product, even when the underlying degree is from an Australian institution.
The Direct Care Skills Assessment at $545 is for ANZSCO 423312 Nursing Support Officer and 423313 Personal Care Worker, not for Registered Nurses or Enrolled Nurses. If the role title is "carer", "support worker", or "PCA", Direct Care is the product. Registered and Enrolled Nurses go through the Full or Modified pathway.
Unlike most other Australian skills authorities, ANMAC publishes no typical time-to-outcome for any of its three products. Total elapsed time depends on document quality, the product chosen, NMBA registration status where relevant, and how many requests for additional information come back. Plan in months from lodgement to outcome rather than fixed weeks.
